Crossection-A Prepared Cross

Devotional Guide for Week of March 26-31

Day One        God’s Good Things              Romans 8:28

1.                  Have you ever had something bad happen that ended up turning out good, or had a good ending that would not have been possible without the bad thing first happening?

When the bad initially happened, was your first thought, “Boy, let’s see the good that takes place now?

What was your first thought?

Did you eventually see the good coming from the bad?  How?

What were your thoughts when you saw the good?

2.                  In Romans 8:28, the Apostle Paul, says that God works good from the bad. How do you interpret the meaning of this verse?

How would you define “good” in this promise?

3.                  What “bad” situation are you currently facing, or is someone you know facing?

Can you see any good at this point?

Pray for God’s “good thing” and for open eyes to see it.

Day Two       The Cross                  John 3:16-17

1.                  When do you think that God first decided that it would take His Son and the Cross to redeem the world?

Why do you think that God chose the Cross instead of destroying most of humanity as He had done when He flooded the earth?

Would the flood accomplish the purpose He had for the Cross?

2.                  In John 3:16 we see, in a nutshell, the purpose of Christ and the Cross.  Paraphrase this purpose in your own words.

Why do you think that the writer had to make the clarification that he made in John 3:17?

Which one of these two verses more appropriately is a definition of how the world sees the purpose of Christ and the Cross? Why?

3.                  What do Christ and the Cross truly mean to you?  Why?

Day Three     Bad Happens            Luke 22:1-2

1.                  Look back at our discussion from the Day One where we looked at Romans 8:28.  How can you imagine this verse applying to the story of Christ and the Cross?

2.                  Read the account of Luke 22:1-2 as you think about the truth of Romans 8:28.  How does the Romans truth explain the Luke event?

How easy do you think it was for Christ or His followers to believe this truth once they realized the betrayal by Judas?

3.                  Does it comfort you to see that Chris truly experienced all that you go through?  He even had to experience bad and see how God worked it for good!

Do you think that this means Christ is able to empathize with you to an infinite degree?

Day Four       A Desire to Relate    Luke 22:14-22

1.                  Have you ever experienced a strong desire to see or visit with someone?

Have you ever had someone you had not seen in a long time that you could not wait until you would be with that person again?  How would you explain your desire and hope to see this person soon?

2.                  In Luke 22:14-22 Christ is still with His followers but is already desiring to see them again after He has to leave them.  Christ knows what is ahead but His consuming thought is to be back with His followers.  Why do you think He feels this way about those that follow Him?

How do you think this desire is the catalyst for the Cross He is about to face?

3.                  Christ shared the bread and the wine as His last moment with His followers whom He loved dearly.  This sharing was intense in His heart and Mind even if it was not truly comprehended by those following Him.  Take a moment to think about what Christ was thinking and feeling as He shared with His followers.  Pray about your own desire to partake of such a moment and to share that same desire and hope for Christ.

Day Five        A Prepared Cross    Luke 22:1-22

1.                  What does the Cross truly mean to you?

Would you define it as a symbol or a pivotal moment of impact in your own life as well as in the world?

Does the cross cause you to think of God’s judgment or His deliverance?

2.                  In Luke 22:1-22 we see the preparation for the Cross.  Christ shares the final moments and meaning with His followers and expresses His love for them.  What do you think kept the followers from truly comprehending all that was being said and all that was about to happen?

If they had fully comprehended and understood all that was going on and would soon take place, how do you think they would have reacted?

How would you have reacted?

3.                  How can you experience this Easter season from a truly comprehensive and understanding viewpoint?

How can you be prepared for the Cross?
